Registration for Zugdidi mayoral elections ends with 16 candidates running

The Zugdidi election commission has completed the registration of candidates for the upcoming mayoral elections.

16 candidates will run in the May 19th by-elections.

There are four women among the 16 candidates.

  •        Sandra Roelofs – from the United Opposition
  •        Nani Khutsidze – from Christian-Conservatives
  •        Lika Bukia – from Movement for Free Georgia
  •        Sophio Kandelaki – from Free Georgia

As for the other candidates they are:

  •         Giorgi Shengelia – from Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia
  •         Paata Pirtakhia – Freedom – Zviad Gamsakhurdia’s Way
  •         Data Gabechava – New Christian-Democrats
  •         Malkhaz Lezhava – From Veterans and Patriots Political Movement
  •         Gogita Bigvava – Christian-Democratic Movement
  •         Shalveg Todua – Alliance of Patriots of Georgia.
  •         Aleksi Noniadze – New Platform
  •         Mamuka Germanishvili – State for People.

The National Democratic Party presented Giorgi Chiviashvili.

Tengiz Jgushia, Domenti Sichinava and Davit Tordia are candidates put forward by initiative groups.

The mayoral office of Zugdidi became vacant after Lasha Gogia’s resignation in September 2018. Shortly afterwards he was arrested for fraud. He does not plead guilty.
