The US Ambassador to Georgia, Ian Kelly, has said that the Georgian Dream leadership wants to develop a multi-party parliamentary democracy where decisions are made based on a consensus while answering questions online earlier today.
I believe that the Georgian Dream leadership does not want to suppress the opposition. Both the Georgian Prime Minister and the Parliament Speaker wish to develop parliamentary democracy,” the ambassador stated.
Kelly underscored that there were some worries in his country when the Georgian Dream party won a large proportion of seats in Parliament in 2016.
However, he said that he believes that the Georgian Dream leadership will continue to act constructively.
The ambassador also stated that much was dependent on the active civil sector and people’s attitude to its government and parliament.
Ian Kelly is due to complete his mission in Georgia this month.
