A Georgian citizen has been detained near the occupation line between Georgia and its Russian occupied region of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) for allegedly crossing the so-called border.

Genadi Bestaev, 50, who lives in Zardiantkari village of Gori region near Tskhinvali now faces two months in prison.

This is the fourth time that Bestaev has been illegally detained by occupation forces.

He was earlier detained on the same allegations in August, September and October in 2017.

The illegal detention of Georgian citizens is a common issue near the occupation line. Detainees are usually released once their family pays a fine.
