All types of transport are prohibited on the Paravani pass due to severe weather conditions.
Passenger cars stuck on the Gudauri-Kobi motorway due to intense snow and avalanche risk for the last two days have been allowed to move forward.
Trailers and semi-trailers have been also allowed to move on the Gudauri-Kobi road towards the Russian border.
Specialists forecast that the weather conditions will worsen in Georgia today.
Frost, snow and wind are forecasted in western and eastern Georgia. The temperature may fall to under -6 degrees Celsius.
The temperature in Tbilisi is forecasted at 6 degrees Celsius during the day while it may reach as low as -3 at night.
Due to intense snow and frost, special restrictions have been imposed on roads throughout Georgia. The Gudauri-Kobi section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi motorway is closed to all traffic. There is a risk of avalanche, the Roads Department said.
Passenger cars are now allowed to move on the Gudauri-Kobi part of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi motorway where cleaning work has been carried out since morning amid snowslide risks.
Heavy snowfall has caused traffic problems in several parts of the country, mostly in mountainous areas. Georgia’s Road Department has announced that road cleaning works will soon start at the Jvari pass, in eastern Kazbegi municipality.
