84 companies inspected for safety, violations reported in almost all of them

The Georgian Health and Labour Ministry has inspected 84 companies since August this year and revealed safety-related and other types of violations in 81 of them.
Information received from the remaining three companies is being processed.
The 81 companies have been warned and given recommendations to improve shortcomings regarding:
- risk identification and risk management.
- primary medical care.
- identification of alcohol, drugs or psychotropic substances at work.
- individual safety devices.
- influence of the company’s work on the environment.
- trainings and instructions for staff.
- safety control mechanisms.
- emergency situation plans and others.
All the companies which have been inspected carry out dangerous or risk-laden work activities.
Inspections took place without prior warning.
Miners to continue receiving wages
A technical study inspecting the safety norms of mines in Georgia has been launched, the results of which will be announced in December 2018, says the Economy Minister Giorgi Kobulia.
Monitoring will be conducted in two directions: whether or not the mines work safely with no technical errors, and whether or not the workers’ rights are protected.
The government of Georgia has declared April 6 as a mourning day after an accident in a mine in west Georgia claiming six lives and injuring three.One of the three mine workers injured in today’s accident has told Georgian Economy Minister Dimitri Kumsishvili that he has never witnessed anything of the sort before - he said that the reason behind the accident early this morning was a coal mine bump.
Business Ombudsman mediates 7hrs of talks
More than five hundred miners in western Georgia’s Tkibuli region ended a 15-day strike after Georgia’s Prime Minister sent a business ombudsman to the scene to settle the ongoing pay dispute.
Several of fifteen miners of the Georgian Manganese in Georgia's western town of Chiatura have sewn their mouths in protest as the company refuses to fulfil their demands regarding increased salaries.
A total of 4,800 employees of the Georgian Railway are preparing to go on strike on August 10 if their salaries are not be increased by 50 per cent, the railway union reports.
Up to 30 miners went to the mine in Georgia’s western Tkibuli municipality and have plans to stay there until their employer gives them and others their salaries and the government decides on the fate of mines.
