Municipal fundings will increase by more than 100 million GEL, Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Maia Tskitishvili has stated today in parliament.
This is an increase of more than 13 per cent compared to last year,” Tskitishvili said.
She spoke about the importance of powerful local governments and stated that a local government is strong when it has the opportunity and resources to independently settle problems affecting its population, without the involvement of a central government.
She said that the state decentralisation action plan is being elaborated.
The process is in its final phase and the parliament, government, local authorities, international and local organisations are involved in it,” Tskitishvili said.
The Ministry of Infrastructure is drafting the state decentralization middle-term strategy (2018-2025) and its action plan for 2018-2019.
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has announced that Maia Tskhitishvili will be Georgia’s new Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure. Tskhitishvili has been the Head of the Government Administration since 2012. She will replace Zurab Alavidze, who took up the ministerial position in November 2016.
As PM Kvirikashvili said, the government plans to double the financing for local governments during the next 10 years. In doing so the government hopes to address the problem inequality of life in different regions of the country.
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said one of the priorities of the government is to ensure balance among the different regions of Georgia. Introducing the regional decentralization strategy today, PM Kvirikashvili said local governments should have both the decision-making authority and the resources for their fulfilment.
Action is being taken to support decentralisation in Georgia and promote a more equal distribution of power.
