NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller says that Georgia is a model and the country should maintain its pace to become a member of the alliance.
Gottemoeller mentioned Georgia in her speech during the 64th NATO PA Annual session in Canada which was held between November 16 and 19.
Georgia is a model and it should maintain its pace for NATO integration, which in its turn will facilitate the formation of consensus within the alliance.
NATO holds the door open and the 2008 Bucharest Summit decision is valid – Georgia will become the NATO member”.
She thanked Georgia for its contribution to international peace in Afghanistan noting that the country is a key actor for security and stability in the Black Sea region.
NATO has praised Georgia’s efforts to pursue peaceful conflict resolution in the context of the Geneva International Discussions, the only international format discussing Georgia’s conflict issues with Russia and the representatives of Georgia’s occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).

NATO door is open to those who share the alliance’ values, meet its standards and want to contribute to the joint efforts, and holding a NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA) session in Tbilisi, Georgia is a proof of this commitment.
NATO announced yesterday that “at the invitation of the Georgian authorities” its North Atlantic Council (NAC) will be visiting Georgia on October 3 and 4. It further informed that NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller will chair a meeting of the NATO–Georgia Commission with the Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia.
