Representatives of large Turkish companies will arrive in Georgia next month to learn about prospects for developing furniture production in the country and the furniture market in Georgia in Georgia.

Economy Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kobulia has already met the heads of 12 leading Turkish furniture companies and the President of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) Nail Olpak in Turkey.

Kobulia introduced Georgia’s investment environment and the government’s initiatives for supporting the furniture sector in Georgia to the Turkish companies.

They are very enthusiastic about investments in different furniture manufacturing sectors. It has already been decided that they will come to Georgia from November 12-15 to discuss specific proposals and hold certain negotiations. They hope to launch large scale production that will serve not only for our regional market but also for export markets including Europe and China. That is what encourages us to think that furniture production should become one of the most important export sectors in Georgia”, Kobulia said.

DEIK President Olpak called on Turkish businessmen to take advantage of vast opportunities that Georgia offers not only in terms of trade, but also in terms of investments.

Today we are listening to the measures that the Georgian government is implementing for business promotion and we are very happy with them”, Olpak noted.

Earlier, Kobulia also met Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey Bekir Pakdemirli, where they talked about increasing meat export from Georgia to Turkey. A special commission is planned to be sent to Georgia to examine the phytosanitary norms of meat products in Georgia.

We hope to increase meat export significantly to Turkey. We also talked about honey export to Turkey at the meeting; also, we talked about increasing Turkish investors in the fields of agriculture such as nut production”, said Kobulia.

Within his visit to Turkey Kobulia also attended the opening ceremony of the new international airport in Istanbul.
