The current situation in the Georgian occupied territories was the key topic of discussion between Georgian PM Mamuka Bakhtadze and EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar late yesterday.

Bakhtadze and Klaar discussed the “dire human rights, security, and humanitarian situation” in Georgia's occupied territories, the government of Georgia press office reported.

Georgia reiterated its commitment to a peaceful conflict-resolution policy. Special emphasis was placed on the important role the EU plays in peaceful conflict-resolution as the co-chair of the Geneva International Discussions, especially in terms of ensuring the implementation of the August 12, 2008 Ceasefire Agreement,” the government of Georgia press office stated.

Bakhtadze and Klaar said that the normal functioning of the local incident prevention mechanism is important.

Today Bakhtadze stated during the meeting of Georgia's EU Integration Commission that despite existing security challenges “we are successfully implementing the reforms under the EU Association Agreement and the Association Agenda.”
