American mezzo-soprano Tiffany Abban, pianist Andrew Tyson and German chamber Trio Gaon will be the first guest artists to launch a new series of classical performances in alternative spaces in Georgia later this year.

The acclaimed performers will be in Tbilisi in December to entertain listeners and attract young audience to classical scene.

Set to perform at the Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia, their appearances will mark the maiden shows of a new project unveiled at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia earlier today.

Involving efforts from the ministry as well as the Tbilisi-based Centre of Classical Music, it will see events held at venues including museum spaces, libraries and art galleries.

It is aimed at promoting the classical genre and bring more listeners to performers usually heard at concert spaces.

The Museum of Georgia, part of the Georgian National Museum network, will first host a show by Abban, a graduate of the Juilliard School as well as the Curtis Institute of Music.

Performing at the San Francisco Opera among other famed venues, she has been awarded prizes including the George London Award and the First Place in the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation.

Her appearance will be followed in the next show by the Munich-based Trio Gaon, a group dedicated to chamber music and centred around the Korean term gaon.

Taking their inspiration from the dual meaning of the word — “centre of the world” and “generating warmth” — the musicians Tae-Hyung Kim, Jehye Lee and Samuel Lutzker bring the meanings into their rendition of musical works.

In the third show of invited artists, award-winning young pianist Andrew Tyson will showcase his talent for listeners at the museum venue in Tbilisi.

Winner of the Mozart and Audience Prizes as well as the Terence Judd-Hallé Orchestra Prize, among other honours, the artist has performed at major venues including the Carnegie Hall and the Zürich Tonhalle.

Tyson has also released two recordings, with his 2017 album featuring works by Maurice Ravel and Alexander Scriabin.

The performances for the newly founded series will be concluded with a show by local violin talent Veriko Tchumburidze and the Georgian Sinfonietta orchestra.

Tchumburidze is a winner of the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Warsaw, while the chamber orchestra has performed at the the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Munich High School of Music and Theatre in Germany, among other venues.

The shows for the opening series will be hosted on December 18, 20, 22 and 24.
