Georgian Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze says that the Georgian Dream ruling party and their supported presidential candidate Salome Zourabichvili have offered opponents a European style election campaign, while the opposition has chosen a different path.

Kobakhidze says that opponents:

  • Are abusing  Zourabichvili.
  • Are trying to exercise pressure on her supporters.
  • Trying to derange Zourabichvili’s meetings with voters.
  • Are making false promises, as the president has been deprived of many of his/her previous rights.
  • Have registered fake parties to have access to budgetary funds and free television ads.
  • Are using Rustavi 2 TV channel for spreading false information and broadcasting staged audio recordings.

Kobakhidze also said that Rustavi 2 does not invite the members of the ruling party on its shows as the channel is “only engaged with biased anti-government propaganda.”

Kobakhidze said that the Georgian Dream has ensured the holding of free and transparent election campaign since 2012 and the upcoming October 28 race will also be conducted in the manner.

He also said that foreign partners are being informed regarding all the illegalities the government opponents are busy with.
