The Japanese government has allocated funds to clear territory near the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region of explosive debris and mines that remain from the Russia-Georgia 2008 War.
The Japanese Embassy to Georgia made the decision back in March 2017 to allocate 346,000 USD to the world’s largest humanitarian mine clearance organisation HALO Trust to remove post war debris in Georgia that posed a deadly risk.
137 hectares have been cleaned and declared safe for 153,500 Georgian residents thanks to the support.
The Japanese government has allocated more than 16 million USD since 1998 for security issues in Georgia.
