The ruling Georgian Dream party has initiated changes to bring the Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office in line with European standards.

The bill proposed by ruling party legislators mandates the creation of permanent and provisional advisory bodies in the Prosecutor’s Office.

The permanent advisory agency will be tasked with offering recommendations to the chief prosecutor regarding internal issues, while provisional agencies will be activated and created in irregular situations.

The bill also calls for the creation of a position for a Secretary for Public Relations, who will be responsible for communication between the chief prosecutor’s office and state bodies.

The bill offers to abolish the position of ad hoc prosecutor, who is tasked to investigate alleged offences committed by a chief prosecutor.

As the chief prosecutor can be fired only via impeachment, the bill says that there is no need for the position of ad hoc prosecutor.
