Road to Tusheti closed due to bad weather, government warns travellers

Due to bad weather conditions the road to Tusheti, a high mountainous region in northeast Georgia and a popular summer destination for tourists and locals, has been closed.
A landslide caused by abundant rainfall has damaged several parts of the road.
The Mayor of Akhmeta Ioseb Karumashvili told Georgian media that road restoration works will start as soon as the weather improves.
"Special machinery has been mobilised near the damaged sections of the road. We expect the weather to improve. We would kindly ask the population and warn them to refrain themselves from moving towards Tusheti until the weather improves," he added.
The Roads Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure has also called on the population not to travel to Tusheti until the road is restored.
The high water level caused by recent flooding in Adjara and Samegrelo has been steadily decreasing as of this morning. There are no threats to the population in any municipality, the Emergency Management Service said recently.
Georgian rescuers are trying to take tourists out of the Truso Gorge, in the eastern mountainous part of Georgia, after flooding of the Tergi river and a landslide on the road leading to Gudauri.
Heavy rain has caused the flooding of yards and ground floors of several streets in the coastal town of Poti in western Georgia.
Powerful rain has resulted in the flooding of houses and streets in the Gardabani, Gori, Signagi and Lagodekhi municipalities last night.
