A group of young contemporary artists from the South Caucasus will display their works in what is set to become the first virtual reality (VR) art exhibition in the region at Tbilisi’s creative Fabrika venue on Thursday.
PeaceVR will feature short VR films created by Georgian, Abkhaz and Armenian artists narrating stories of "various people and spaces”, organisers said.
It will represent the first multimedia exhibition of the type in the South Caucasus, heralding an early highlight of the VR technology for the local art scene.
The creations are the result of an initiative from Elva platform, which was launched with the goal of using VR technology for efforts of peace-building in regions of the world affected by conflicts.
The platform’s work includes efforts to "better connect people and restore trust” in post-conflict circumstances, with projects held in over 15 countries.
Within the work, organisers have provided young artists in the regions with knowledge on VR filming, enabling them to produce videos "with the support of the international mentors”.
The Tbilisi display will open at Fabrika, a former Soviet sewing factory-turned-art space, located at 8, Ninoshvili Street.
The one-day exhibition will run until 10pm on Thursday.
