Georgia promoted 11 places in World Bank’s logistic performance index

Georgia’s logistics performance has improved, jumping 11 places from 130th to occupy the 119th position on the World Bank’s recently released Logistics Performance Index (LPI) 2018 report.
The 2018 Logistics Performance Index scores countries on how efficiently they move goods across and within borders.
In the index Georgia takes 119 place with a score of 2.44 among 160 countries across the world.
Georgia improved its position in almost every component of the index:
- Efficiency of the clearance process (i.e., speed, simplicity and predictability of formalities) by border control agencies, including customs – 2.42.
- Quality of trade and transport related infrastructure (e.g., ports, railroads, roads, information technology) – 2.38.
- International shipments - 2.38.
- Competence and quality of logistics services (e.g., transport operators, customs brokers) – 2.26.
- Timeliness of shipments in reaching destination within the scheduled or expected delivery time – 2.95.
Germany (score 4.20), Sweden (score 4.05), Belgium (score 4.04), Austria (score 4.03) and Japan (score 4.03) are the countries which had the best logistics performance in 2018.
The World Bank Group Board of Executive Directors has endorsed the 2019-2022 Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for Georgia, which aims to support sustainable and inclusive growth and improve living standards in the country.
The World Bank is ready to support the successful implementation of current and planned reforms by the Government of Georgia, says the Executive Director of the World Bank Group and the bank’s representative in Georgia Frank Heemskerk.
The production of bitcoins and blockchain technologies are very well developed in Georgia and furthermore, the country is among the leaders in this field, believes a World Bank delegation to Georgia.
The World Bank is continuing to help Georgia improve its main transport artery, the East-West Highway, by offering €16.9 million.
The offenders may face imprisonment from five to seven years.

Georgia’s municipality of Martvili and the cities of Tbilisi and Batumi have all successfully passed the so called “PEFA CHECK” launched by the World Bank and the European Union, which confirms that “all quality standards had been met” in these areas.
The World Bank’s assessment of Georgia’s logistics capabilities has jumped from 119th to 79th position in its latest Logistics Performance Index, marking an improvement of 40 spots in the report assessing countries’ ability to move goods across borders with speed and reliability.
The World Bank on Wednesday said it had launched Greening Firms in Georgia, a report serving as a “call to action” for policymakers, businesses and stakeholders to prioritise and invest in improving energy efficiency across the country.
