Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze has introduced his ‘small government’ today, pledging to keep government expenditures under 3.9 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

By reducing government expenditures Bakhtadze hopes to save 100-120 million GEL (about $41 million to $49 million), ‘which would be redirected to social programmes’.

This is the best practice, international experience. This is the limit that leads to a successful economy”, said Bakhtadze.

In his words, next year’s budget should be planned along these lines.

To note Bakhtadze presented the new governmental structure today which includes 10 ministers and one state minister’s office.

The number of ministers will be reduced from 14 to 11.
