Georgian air traffic is increasing, spurred on by upgrades to the country's aviation infrastructure and growing tourism opportunities.
In the first five months of 2018, air traffic in Georgia increased by 10.5 percent, announced Sakaeronavigatsia, the air navigation service provider in Georgia.
The total number of flights during January-May 2018 equalled 41,925, which is an increase by 2,246 flights or by 5.7 percent compared to the same period of 2017.
The total distance of the flights in January-May 2018 in Georgian air space equalled 16,385,340 km. This indicator is by 32,454 km or 0,2 percent less compared to the same period in 2017, "which is a positive outcome of the free-routes concept introduced by Sakaeronavigatsia”, said the company.
Turkish Airplanes, Qatar Airways, Thai Airways International, Azerbaijan Airlines – Azal and Singapore Airlines were the companies which used Georgian airspace most frequently for transit purposes.
Georgian Airways, Turkish Airlines, Wizz Air and the Ukraine Airlines were the top companies in terms of the number of carried-out flights.
