Bicycle race promotes healthy living, traffic safety

A bicycle race in Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and raising public awareness on traffic safety took place yesterday.

Under the title ‘Path to European Union’ the race was held within the framework of European days 2017 as part of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs’ campaign ‘For Your Sake. For Your Safety’.

Engaging more than 200 racers including the departments of the Interior Ministry, the race took start from Vake Park passing central Chavtchavadze and Rustaveli Avenues before finally ending at the NATO and EU information center at Freedom Square.

Drivers are required to stop if people want to cross at a pedestrian crossing however very few actually do. Similarly, pedestrians sometimes walked into the traffic without checking if the road is clear. Photo by NATO and EU information center

Six winners have been awarded with symbolic gifts including bicycle accessories.
