Georgia’s Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze says that road crash statistics in Georgia are alarming and parliament is ready to adopt a bill an road safety as soon as possible.

Kobakhidze spoke at a road safety conference today and said that concrete proposals have already been prepared and now actions are needed to actually implement these plans and ensure road safety in the country.

"We need to act in a timely manner. Every day we postpone adopting the bill means more road accidents and more road deaths”, Kobakhidze said.
"Parliament is fully committed to adopting a package of amendments on road safety as quickly as possible”.

Statistics show that each year about 600 people die in accidents on Georgian roads.

The previous parliament suggested legislative changes to Georgia’s traffic laws but the amendments were never adopted.
