Women’s archery team claim European gold for Georgia

Georgian women archers are celebrating after claiming this year’s European Grand Prix by defeating Russia in the tournament’s final on Saturday.

The three athletes of the team were crowned champions in the south-western Polish city of Legnica, where the competition ran from April 25-29.

Saturday’s final pitted the Georgian archers against their Russian counterparts at the city’s Municipal Stadium to contest the ultimate honours in the recurve discipline.

The Georgian team emerged victorious with a final score of 6-0, capping their impressive run in the competition.

Georgia reached the final after defeating two-times world champions Italy in the semifinal. They also overcame the Netherlands in the first round of the tournament.

The newly crowned champion team featured three athletes: 2015 Archery World Cup runner-up Kristine Esebua, two-times European championship runner-up in team category Nana Makharadze and debuting team member Khatuna Narimanidze.

Georgia was represented at the European Grand Prix by both women’s and men’s teams. The latter finished fourth at the Europe-wide event.
