Georgian and Turkmen top officials believe the two nations have potential to further enhance transport-transit ties and say a recently signed deal can play an important role in the process.

Georgia’s and Turkmenistan’s foreign ministers stated this at today’s meeting in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

They especially highlighted the Lapis Lazuli Corridor deal signed in November between Georgia, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey, a transit, trade and transport route that connects Europe and Asia by road, rail and sea.

Georgia’s Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze and his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov shared the view that the project would benefit the two nations and the whole region.

They stated various infrastructural projects are ongoing in both countries within the project.

Meredov stated Turkmenistan was ready for closer trade-economic relations with Georgia.

Janelidze launched his meetings in Turkmenistan yesterday and is scheduled to complete the trip today.
