CoE-EU joint project report praises tangible progress for prison healthcare

A report of the Council of Europe (CoE) and the European Union (EU) joint project - Human Rights and Healthcare in Georgian Prisons and Penitentiary Facilities - has praised "tangible progress” made in better healthcare in the prison system.

The report said that a three-year plan has been elaborated within the project to ensure and control healthcare services in prisons.

95 percent of the heads of the medical institutions are being trained for healthcare management in prisons and they already enjoy modern vision and knowledge in this regard,” the Ministry of Corrections statement reads.

The Ministry says that the achievements in the framework of the project have been positively assessed both by the project leadership and the Georgian Public Defender’s office.

The latest, third report within the project covers the period between April 1, 2016 and October 31, 2017.
