Defence Ministry hands over flats to soldiers

Georgia’s Ministry of Defence has handed over new flats to 242 former and acting soldiers, 26 out of the people had been wounded or injured for Georgia’s territorial integrity or in peacekeeping missions.
A new block of flats is located in Varketili area of Tbilisi, in the so-called Soldiers’ Settlement.
The ministry has already gifted flats to 1,286 soldiers and plans to do the same for another 714 servicemen.

The distribution of flats in a newly built housing block was was based on a lottery.
Defence Minister Levan Izoria personally gave the keys of the first new owner to the new apartment.
On January 7 the Defence Ministry officials handed flats to the families of 10 Georgian soldiers, eight of them died during various military trainings and studies, and the rest two got injured when protecting Georgian interests.
Ten Georgian soldiers wounded while fighting to protect the country’s unity have received apartments from the state at the Gori military settlement.
The families of more than a dozen soldiers who died in battle or were seriously injured while serving their countries, were granted new homes today in a military housing program.
Increased salaries and new apartments for service members, improved combat capability and new focus on cybersecurity will be the focus of the Georgian armed forces in 2019 and beyond, the country’s Minister of Defence Levan Izoria revealed on Monday.
