German-language translators offered Tbilisi residency program

German-speaking translators are invited to apply for the a newly launched residency program allowing them to live in Georgia's capital and work on making some of the most fascinating examples of local literature available in German language.

Unveiled by the Georgian National Book Centre and the Writers' House of Georgia, the residency is aimed to coincide with Georgia's preparations for the status of the Guest of Honour at next year's Frankfurt Book Fair.

 The residency program is directed at experienced, qualified literary translators living abroad who are in the process of translating Georgian modern classics, contemporary authors’ works into German language", said the announcement.

The residency will take place over two weeks in February and March 2018, with the selected translators provided accommodation at the newly opened residency rooms of the Writers' House venue.

They will be able to collaborate with local authors and literary professionals during their work on Georgian literature, as the host country gears up for its high-profile presentation at the 2018 fair.

The Georgian representation at this year's Frankfurt event was handed the Guest of Honour status on the final day of the event last month.
