Ana Urushadze’s ‘Scary Mother’ wins grand prix at El Gouna Film Festival

Georgian debuting filmmaker Ana Urushadze’s feature Scary Mother has become the winner of El Gouna Film Festival.

El Gouna Film Festival announced the winners of CineGouna Platform Awads which was held alongside the festival activities.

Egyptian film critic Safaa Al-Lithy initiated the ceremony by presenting the "Samir Farid” Award, by the Egyptian Critics Society which went to the film "Scary Mother” by Ana Urushadze”, the festival's webpage said.

Featuring script by the emerging director, the film follows Georgian woman Manana, who finally takes up her dream of writing, years after initially shelving the idea in favour of taking care of household work.

As the protagonist of the story begins reading her first published book to family members, she realises her fears of negative reception from relatives are becoming a reality.

Taking place in El Gouna Resort-town in Egypt between September 22-29, it has been the First Edition of El Gouna Film Festival at the Red Sea’s honeypot destination.
