Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili will pay an official working visit to Germany where he will meet the newly re-elected German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday.

Relations between Georgia and Germany, the current situation in the region and Georgia-European Union cooperation, will be among the issues Kvirikashvili and Merkel will discuss at the meeting.

Merkel’s party, the Christian Democrats (CDU) has recently won German federal elections, making Merkel a Chancellor for the forth term.

Georgian Public Broadcaster said PM Kvirikashvili will be the first world leader whom Merkel will meet after elections.

2017 has been declared as a year celebrating the friendship of Germany and Georgia.

It was 25 years ago when Georgia and Germany established their first diplomatic ties, while 200 years ago the very first German people emigrated to Georgia.
