You can now find information about the European Union’s ongoing cooperation with Georgia on a brand-new online portal for EU’s neighbouring countries.

Revealed on Thursday, the EU Neighbours website presents updates and details on the European Neighbourhood Policy, through which the EU governs its relations to the 16 of its closest neighbours, including Georgia.

The new portal includes individual pages for the EU’s southern and eastern neighbours, with Georgia featured alongside Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Armenia in the latter group.

Stories including news, features and interviews are arranged on the website along with information on the European body’s ongoing projects with the subject countries. The pages are available in four languages, with more versions, including Georgian, in the works.

The section on the EU-Georgia neighbourhood includes news on economic and judicial reforms carried out within the partnership as well as educational opportunities for Georgian citizens in the EU countries and job opportunities at European institutions in the Caucasus.

The portal is part of the EU’s OPEN Neighbourhood Programme, which was designed in 2015 to increase awareness on the European Neighbourhood Policy.

Launched in 2004, the Policy is aimed to support "political and economic reforms in Europe’s neighbouring countries”.

The unveiling of the EU Neighbours website coincides with today’s historic decision by the European Parliament to approve visa-free travel to the EU for citizens of Georgia.
