A Georgian citizen illegally detained by Russian-controlled guards has been released today.

Georgian citizen Uta Samushia was detained in Georgia’s Samegrelo region yesterday.

As reported, Samushia was fishing in the river of Enguri when Russian soldiers attacked him.

He was accused for crossing the so-called border illegally.

Another man Tengiz Mikava who has also been detained remains in detention.

The illegal detention of Georgian citizens by Russian-controlled guards is a common issue in both Russian-occupied region of Georgia – Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).

The detainees are usually freed only after their families pay a ransom. The most recent case of the illegal detention at the occupation line was reported earlier today.
