Georgian weightlifter Revaz Davitadze claimed two medals including the title of the world champion at the ongoing Junior World Championships in Tokyo today.

Davitadze, a 2015 European Youth Championships silver medal-winner, triumphed in the 85kg Snatch category for men in Japan's capital to take the title.

The 18-year old from Georgia finished ahead of Qatar's Fares Ibrahim Elbakh and Keydomar Giovanni Vallenilla Sanchez of Venezuela after lifting 154, 159 and 162 kilos in three attempts.

In addition to the Snatch, the young athlete also competed in the Clean & Jerk category, where he lifted 185 kilos in a single attempt and finished ninth.

The combined total from his two results put Davitadze in third for the overall classification, earning him an additional bronze medal.

Davitadze is among over 300 men and women weightlifters competing for honours at the Junior World Championships.

The competition launched on June 15 and will conclude on Friday.

Davitadze was among the group of junior weightlifters that swept eight medals for Georgia at the 2015 European Youth Weightlifting Championships in Sweden, earning a silver in the tournament.
