A group of junior Georgian weightlifters have competed successfully at a top European tournament and returned home with eight medals.

The Georgian junior team gained two silver and one bronze medals in the snatch, one gold and one silver medals in the clean and jerk and one silver and two bronze medals in the overall competition at the 2015 European Youth Weightlifting Championships in Sweden.

The triumphant team returned home victorious.

Silver-winning athlete Revaz Davitadze said it was pity he missed out on the opportunity to win gold as he had a "good chance” to do so but his "lack of experience” held him back from achieving his full potential.

After the young athletes’ international success, the Georgian Weightlifting Federation said it would help the sport become more popular in the country.

Federation president Kakhi Kakhiahsvili said eight new facilities had been chosen in different Georgian cities where young sportsmen could enjoy "modern practicing conditions”.
