Georgia and Azerbaijan are striving to boost tourism numbers with new projects and activities that are planned for increasing tourists flow into the region, improving touristic infrastructure and services.
Both countries have huge potential for implementing joint projects to further develop and support tourism in the region,” said Georgia’s Economy Minister Giorgi Gakharia after the meeting with Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev in Baku.
We gave information to Azerbaijani side about the projects that aim at developing touristic infrastructure. We agreed to implement joint projects within the World Tourism Organisation in order to raise awareness of our region as a touristic hot-spot,” Gakharia said.
At the meeting with Garayev Georgian Minister talked about Georgia’s project ‘Check-in Georgia’ which aims at transforming Georgia into a vibrant cultural hub by organising a number of cultural and touristic events.
As for tourism ties between Georgia and Azerbaijan, the statistics show that Georgia is one of the most favourable destinations for Azerbaijani tourists.
In the first five months of 2017 Georgia hosted 602,840 travellers from Azerbaijan, while last year a total of 1,523,057 Azerbaijani tourists visited Georgia.
