Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has told Georgian journalists the Universal Healthcare Program was a success story but he believed the program could be better.

Several minutes ago Kvirikashvili said the Ministry of Health was discussing amendments to the Universal Healthcare Program – a Government-initiated scheme that covered the medical expenses of all Georgian citizens.

Currently the program offered all citizens the same benefits however Kvirikashvili believed more could be done to help citizens more who were more vulnerable.

I think Ministers and those who have a good income should not be involved in the Universal Healthcare Program. There should be different packages and those who have lower incomes should have higher state support to care for their health,” Kvirikashvili said.

The PM also said the Government was working on projects that would make medicines more available for Georgians in the future.

Furthermore he highlighted the importance of producing medicines locally with the support of important foreign players.
