American bloggers Katherine and Romeo Belarminos are sharing their experiences of exploring Georgia’s capital Tbilisi with the world.
The bloggers went on a walking tour of the city and admired the hidden treasures, crumbling architecture and iconic balconies Tbilisi offers.
Their impressions were gathered in one blogpost, published on Travel the World published on March 28, 2016.
We were surprised to learn that there was more for tourists in Tbilisi to see than just what is visible from the street,” wrote the bloggers.
With help of local host Anna Koripadze, the American couple walked through hidden courtyards surrounded by modern and functional wood panelled balconies. They visited several old streets of Tbilisi and discovered the city’s ancient architectural treasures.
While taking pictures of painted ceiling inside a building at 14 Alexander Griboedov St, two women who live in the building came home and asked the bloggers if they wanted to see what the rooms looked like from the inside.
The lavish decoration, like carved wood trim painted with pastels and gold, which remains intact in their apartment is stunning. They told us their apartment was originally a guest room or entertaining room that held just one piano. Now the rooms of what used to be a residence for one family are separated into multiple apartments,” read the blog.
Following the old streets in Tbilisi the bloggers described what they saw in details.
Many of the Art Nouveau buildings of old Tbilisi are protected as historical structures. However, they cannot be restored quickly enough. Some are on the verge of crumbling and some have already collapsed. Hopefully these architectural treasures will be preserved and restored, but just in case, be sure to visit these ornate relics from the past while you can,” they wrote.
The bloggers thanked the Georgian National Tourism Administration for hosting their trip to Georgia. The bloggers visited the country last week to explore the country and share their experiences with the world.
Of course, you can make your own walking tour of old Tbilisi and use this as a guide (hopefully my frantic note taking was enough to get you to the right places), or create your own tour and peek into the buildings that peak your interest… What I know for sure is that once you have a taste of what these old buildings hide you will peek into every open entry you pass with the hopes of finding a new treasure,” wrote the bloggers.
As well as Tbilisi, the Belarminos couple visited other iconic areas of Georgia including Kazbegi, Kutaisi, Gelati, Tskaltubo, Signagi and Khvareli.
