A Spain-based Georgian sambo wrestler has won a gold medal at the Open Sambo Championship in Madrid, Spain.
Gia Magradze, who competed in the heavy weight category (+100kg) was crowned competition champion for the second consecutive year.
The Georgian wrestler triumphed at the event last year after a 15-year break. Magradze stopped competing in 1996 and had not held a single fight since until 2015.
Also last year Magradze won a bronze medal at a European championship.
Sambo is a Russian-style martial art and combat sport. The word sambo is an acronym, which literally translates in English to ‘self defence without weapons’.
