One million flowers will be planted in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi to make this summer full of colour.
Today Tbilisi City Hall announced it will spend 900,000 GEL (about $362,920/€ 328,685*) on planting efforts to make the city greener, more visually attractive and environmentally friendly.
In total Tbilisi City Hall will plant 180,000 plants on 311 hectares of land in Tbilisi and its surrounding areas.
Together with specialists, the Ecology and Greenery Department of Tbilisi City Hall selected 80,000 tree varieties to plant in the city that will thrive in the Tbilisi climate.
The trees will be planted on 15ha if land in Makhata mountain, on a 16ha plot of land in in Okrokhana and in other areas of the city including Didi Dighomi and Patara Lilo. Parks and squares in the capital will also go green.
Additionally, about 12,000 decorative bushes of 20 different varieties will be planted in Tbilisi and in the near future 20,000m2 will be covered with grass, authorities announced.
