Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili believes that Georgia has never been as close to the European Union (EU) as in the recent years.

Kvirikashvili talked about Georgia’s western aspirations in his interview with Georgia’s Public Broadcaster last night.

The Prime Minister believed that the success the country had reached recently was thanks to the reforms it had carried out.

"Georgia is a true champion in implementing reforms in the region,” he said.

Kvirikashvili said he was optimistic of Georgia’s visa liberalistaion.

"I have very optimistic expectations. At all levels, the Government and diplomatic corps had carried out much work and I think we are very close to the technical decision [regarding visa waiver],” he said.

The PM added that the political decision was already made and agreed with all EU structures, and now some time was needed only for "technical details” to be completed.

"What’s left is a vote [within the European Parliament] and translation of the document and publishing in all 28 members states. This is a very technical procedure and it needs time,” he added.
