Georgian author’s award-winning novel translated into Italian

Italian readers have been treated to a new translation of one of the most acclaimed Georgian books of modern times.

The Italian translation of the novel Memphis by award winning author Teona Dolenjashvili was presented at the House of Literature library in central Rome on February 1.

The special event saw Dolenjashvili and the book's translator Manana Topadze-Gaeumann address Italian literary figures and art and culture representatives to tell them of the book's history and how it came to be translated.

The event was organised by local cultural association With Georgia in the Heart together with the Embassy of Georgia in Italy.

The Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia and the Georgian National Book Centre also supported the occasion.

Dolenjashvili won the 2009 Saba Literary Prize in Georgia for her work Memphis.

The author was also awarded the 2006 Saba Prize for Literary Debut of the Year for her novel The River of January.

Her work Animal Planetwas selected for the 2012 collection 15 of the Best Georgian Novels.
