Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has asked the country’s Minister of Internal Affairs to strictly control the use of emergency and warning lights on Government vehicles.
The PM expressed his dissatisfaction about the overuse of these lights at today’s Governmental meeting.
In recent days multiple times I came across black jeeps driving with their emergency lights on, not only in the city but on highways too,” Kvirikashvili said.
He asked Interior Minister Giorgi Mgebrishvili to instruct the Patrol Police to impose new rules against the overuse of emergency lights. Kvirikashvili said the emergency lights were a tool that could be used in certain situations but it was clear this tool was being abused.
Personally, I almost never use these warning lights on the Prime Minister’s car. I want to ask everybody to adjust to this standard and only use these lights in accordance with the law,” Kvirikashvili said.
He believed improper use of emergency lights on official vehicles was "pretty annoying” for citizens.
I hope that after this statement everyone will act appropriately. These lights can be used in exceptional cases but please take proper measures to stop the practice of such irresponsible behaviour in the streets and highways,” Kvirikashvili addressed the Interior Minister.
Today Georgia’s lawmakers held its first Governmental meeting since being approved by Parliament on November 26.
