Tbilisi City Hall has today announced plans to build 10 multi-level parking buildings in Georgia's capital city to ease traffic woes and resolve parking issues on central city streets.
Tbilisi Mayor David Narmania said his office will "very soon" announce a tender to construct 10 multi-level parking spaces in central Tbilisi.
Narmania told local IPN news agency that 10 projects had already been drafted by Tbilisi City Hall experts and said project tenders would soon be announced.
The Tbilisi official conceded parking in Georgia's capital needed urgent attention.
He noted in many European countries the public paid high prices to park in the central city however setting high prices for parking in central Tbilisi was not currently on the agenda.
Narmania added however it was very likely there would be a cost and the company that won the tender would specify a price to park in the new multi-level parking buildings.
Building of the new parking areas did not mean Tbilisi City Hall would suspend its contract with City Park, the company currently tasked with regulating parking in capital Tbilisi, but noted City Park did not have a right to oppose the new initiative.
