A Georgian high official says preparations are in place to ensure the smooth running of the second round of majoritarian elections  on Sunday.

Today Georgia’s Minister of Internal Affairs said the agency was "fully mobilised not to let any complications” occur during this weekend’s second round of voting.

I take responsibility that the second round of elections will be held in a peaceful environment,” Minister Giorgi Mgebrishvili said.

He stressed all international and local observers admitted the first round of the Parliamentary Elections was conducted mainly calmly, with only a handful of facts of violation, and he hoped this weekend’s vote would be conducted in a similar high standard environment.

Mgebrishvili stressed those who tried to cause any unrest in the electoral process would be held accountable, no matter who they were or their political beliefs.

The second round of elections will be held in 50 majoritarian districts where no candidates managed to overcome the 50 percent threshold in the first round of the race.
