The Prime Minister of Georgia today sat down with Ambassadors of the European Union (EU) and the United States (US) to Georgia to discuss the October 8 Parliamentary Elections.

US Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly and head of the European Union Delegation to Georgia Janos Herman congratulated Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili on successful completion of the first round of elections.

Both foreign diplomats stressed the October 8 vote was held "in an open, highly competitive and well-organised environment with full protection of the fundamental rights of citizens”.

Kelly said last Saturday's elections "proved Georgia's devotion to democratic reforms,” wrote the Prime Minister’s press office in a statement about the meeting.

The US Ambassador hoped the second round of majoritarian elections would take place in a "calm environment” and all political players and supporters would act responsibly and in line with the law.

Kvirikashvili thanked the US and EU diplomats for their positive remarks about the elections. He noted the "significant role” the EU and other international organisations played to actively monitor the electoral process.

Georgia's Prime Minister said the Government was preparing to host the second round of elections, and added these would also be held in line with the highest democratic standards.
