A German high official is congratulating Georgia on another milestone on its path towards gaining visa liberalisation allowing travel to the European Union (EU) without a visa.

Today the Germany Embassy to Georgia released a statement on behalf of Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who offered his congratulations following this week’s news that Georgia’s visa liberalisation will be discussed in European Parliament.

This is a big step forward from our side” said Steinmeier.
For this, Georgia has created a strong foundation by implementing reforms tirelessly.”
Germany is taking all steps to help Georgia deepening its cooperation with the EU,” he added.

Two days ago news came out of Brussels, Belgium that the Council of Europe agreed it was time to begin negotiating with European Parliament about the right to grant Georgian citizens a visa waiver.

This would allow Georgian citizens to travel to the EU’s passport-free Schengen Zone without a visa.
