Strong wind and heavy rain has crashed down on Georgia’s western Ozurgeti region this afternoon, damaging buildings and causing problems for locals.

Ozurgeti Mayor Beglar Sioridze said roofs had been ripped off more than 50 houses and about 10 families had no electricity, as strong wind tore power lines.

He said emergency services had visited some of the affected people and installed temporary roofs on the damaged houses. These would offer some assistance until the weather eased and a more permanent solution could be found.

Mayor Sioridze said as soon as the weather improved, local authorities would visit everyone affected by today’s wild weather and calculate the damage incurred.
