Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE) Thorbjorn Jagland says the CoE will continue its fruitful cooperation with Georgia no matter which political parties are voted into the legislative body following the October 8 Parliamentary Elections in Georgia.

Jagland offered these words to Georgia’s Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili when the pair met on a sideline meeting of the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament in Strasbourg, France yesterday.

The CoE Secretary General noted CoE-Georgia relations were effective and productive and future cooperation will be enhanced in all directions.

"The CoE will further cooperate with Georgia regardless of political spectrum in the new Parliament,” said Jagland.

The pair also discussed the upcoming Parliamentary Elections in Georgia, to which Jagland said: "multi-party democracy is important for every country”.

The September 15-16 conference in France, organised annually by the Parliamentary Assembly of the CoE (PACE), is being attended by heads of parliaments from 47 member nations and 350 delegates.
