Georgia’s President welcomes first female cadets at Georgia’s Military Lyceum

President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili is congratulating students all over the country on the first day of the 2016-17 school year and particularly welcoming the first female cadets at Georgia’s Cadet Military Lyceum.  

I want to congratulate the beginning of the school year to everyone in Georgia from where I stand at the Lyceum, as it is a special educational institution that plays a significant role in protecting state security,” said Margvelashvili from the military school in western Kutaisi.

Since opening in 2010, Georgia’s Cadet Military Lyceum has become the country’s top secondary military education institution however until now the school has only accepted males into the academy.

The focus was on producing well-trained male cadets for their successful future military careers, but from this year forward females are also welcome at the Lyceum.

Margvelashvili stressed Georgian women and men had always performed equally in service of their homeland and he welcomed the inclusion of women at the military school.

From the Lyceum I want to address everyone, to our friends and foes, that our country is powerful. It is powerful with its past, present and future,” Margvelashvili said.

The President also announced he had established a scholarship for female cadets to encourage more young women to learn at the military school.

The military school offered three years of learning and training for students in the 10th, 11th and 12th Grades.

Boys and girls with Grade 9 school completion certificates are eligible to be accepted at Georgia’s Cadet Military Lyceum.
