Today Georgia’s Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili said the agency was aware of several incidences planned for before and after the October 8 Parliamentary Elections and he stressed any such incident would not be tolerated.
Mgebrishvili said the Ministry had "strength and resources” to prevent all provocations and violations and he appealed to political actors to refrain from getting involved in any incident that could damage state interests.
Mgebrishvili’s comments were made earlier today during the Interpol General Secretariat Project- Millennium Conference, taking place in Tbilisi today and tomorrow.
The Conference has brought together 58 delegates from 24 nations to discuss the outcomes of international police cooperation and address ongoing challenges of international crime. Specifically, Project Millennium targets transnational Eurasian organised crime, referred to as TEOC.
These crime groups generally come from the republics of the former Soviet Union and former Communist countries of Eastern Europe, the Interpol webpage reads.
Meanwhile in response to Mgebrishvili’s comments, several members of opposition parties addressed the Minister to provide evidence of his claims.
