Grape harvest 2016: 16,300 tonnes of grapes picked so far

Grape growers in Georgia’s famous Kakheti wine region are enjoying the benefits of a bumper harvest.
Already this year farmers have earned 13.4 million GEL by selling about 16,300 tonnes of grapes.
The Georgian National Wine Agency said local growers had processed following grape varieties:
- Rkatsiteli - 6,300 tonnes
- Saperavi - 7,900 tonnes
- Kakhuri Mtsvane – 827 tonnes
So far this season most grapes were processed in Kakheti’s Sighnaghi municipality.
Different areas in Kakheti processed different amounts of grapes. See below:
- Sighnaghi – 4,900 tonnes
- Gurjaani – 3,500 tonnes
- Kvareli – 3,400 tonnes
- Telavi – 3,200 tonnes
- Dedoplistskaro – 1,100 tonnes
- Akhmeta – 94 tonnes
- Lagodekhi – 88 tonnes
- Sagarejo – 55 tonnes
In Kakheti 40 wine companies are involved in grape processing works, including six wine enterprises that were hired by the state.
On another note 103 wine producing companies were registered at a special grape harvest coordination centre so far, said the Agency.
9,000 tonnes of grapes generate over 7m GEL for farmers
Wine producers, family-owned vine growers, small-time growers and visitors in Georgia’s famous Kakheti wine region are completely immersed in the grape picking bustle, with the 2016 harvest now in full swing.
Today Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili announced the Government will subsidise the 2016 grape harvest and support farmers to completely sell their produce.
143,167 tonnes of grapes generate 102m GEL for farmers
The 2015 grape harvest is over and Georgia has enjoyed a record number of harvested wine grapes.
30,477 tonnes of grapes generate 17.45m GEL for farmers
The 2015 grape harvest is in full swing in Georgia’s nine wine-producing villages where a total of 30,477 tonnes of grapes has been picked so far.
New opportunities are opening for Georgian winemakers and wine-lovers through a new European Union (EU)-funded program to spur growth and exports of Georgian wine to the EU market.
37,800 tonnes of grapes picked so far
Grape growers in Georgia’s eastern Kakheti region are continuing to reap the benefits of a bumper harvest. So far this season farmers have earned 32.4 million GEL by selling about 37,800 tonnes of grapes.
Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has today traveled to eastern Georgia’s Kakheti region – the country’s most famous wine-making area.
The grape harvest is in full swing in Georgia’s eastern Kakheti region where so far this season 11,000 farmers have earned over 62 million GEL by selling 71,300 tonnes of grapes.
