France Defence Minister pays first visit to Georgia

Minister of Defence of France Jean-Yves Le Drian will visit Georgia’s capital Tbilisi today.

This will be the French Defence Minister’s first-ever visit to Georgia.

His trip will last for three days and while here the French Minister will meet Georgian leaders and other high officials.

The French official will hold his first meeting with his Georgian counterpart Levan Izoria.

He will also meet Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, President Giorgi Margvelashvili and other Georgian defence officials.

The French Defence Minister is scheduled to travel to western Georgia to attend the 10th anniversary celebrations at Sachkhere Mountain Training School, which was established using financial support from the French side.

The French Minister will also award medals to Georgian military soldiers who served alongside French servicemen in Afghanistan and the Central African Republic.
