Elections 2016: 11 parties, 3 blocs run in elections for Adjara’s Supreme Council

Elections for the Adjara Supreme Council are scheduled for October 8 – the same day as Georgia’s Parliamentary Elections.

Fifteen political parties and blocs have registered to compete in the October election of Supreme Council of Adjara, which is the local parliament of the region in Georgia’s Black Sea coast.

The elections for Adjara’s 21-member Supreme Council will take place on October 8 – the same day as Georgia’s Parliamentary Elections. 

The Supreme Election Commission of the Adjara Autonomous Republic (SEC), responsible for holding the elections in the autonomous region, today announced 15 political groups had registered to take part in the upcoming election.

Of these, 11 were political parties while four were coalitions uniting several political blocs. 

The registered political groups are: 

  • Usupashvili – Republican Party 
  • David Tevzadze – Georgia for Peace 
  • Irakli Alasania – Free Democrats 
  • Shalva Natelashvili – Georgia’s Labour Party 
  • Georgia’s United Communist Party 
  • David Tarkhan Mouravi, Irma Inashvili – Georgia’s Patriotic Alliance  
  • National Forum 
  • United National Movement 
  • Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia 
  • Murman Dumbadze, Medea Vasadze – In Service of Georgia Party; 
  • Tamaz Metchiauri – United Georgia Party
  • Election bloc: Nino Burjanadze/Democratic Georgia 
  • Election bloc: Paata Burchuladze/State for People
  • Election bloc: Topadze Industrials/Our Country 
  • Election bloc: Ours/People’s Party 

All the political parties/blocs submitted their party lists to the SEC before yesterday’s deadline. 

Now the SES has 10 days to study the lists. If any mistakes are in the list, offending parties have three days to correct the mistakes.

Initially 28 political subjects provided documentation to the SEC to participate in the upcoming race however only 15 managed to meet all the requirements.
